Interview With Ryan Terry, Mister International 2010

Ryan Terry is a 23 year old plumber who was crowned Mr. Great Britain and took his modelling passion even further by beating 40 other countries for the prestigious title of Mister International 2010 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In addition to the main title he won the title of ‘Best Body’ beating off the majority of seasoned and professional models. He was crowned by 2009’s title holder, Bruno Kettels of Bolivia, in front of a delighted 1000 strong audience and broadcast to over 200 million viewers around the World.
Ryan is the first European to win the Mister International title, receiving congratulations from across the globe. The win was a huge milestone in his quest to turn from a plumber to a model. Over the last year Ryan has worked closely with USN and has done some modelling work with local modelling agencies and TV adverts.
And finally, The Stunning Angels had the opportunity to interview Ryan. Let us find out a little more about him..

1. What was your main reason to participate in Mister International?
I wanted to test my boundaries and see if I was worthy of such an amazing and prestigious title.

2. What was your first impression as a candidate of Mr. International 2010 when you arrived in Jakarta?
The nerves started to kick in and then I realized just how big the Pageant I had entered was and how life changing it would be for me if I won.

3. Who were your favorites to make it in to the top 15 and who did you believe would be the winner?
I believed that Ireland or Denmark would win my pageant as they were very confident and established models already so I didn’t think I would have a prayer of winning next to them.

4. Once you had won the Mister International 2010 title, what were your main activities?
My main activities were to travel the world and visit the countries that were entering this year pageant, to experience what that country has to offer and the beauty of there country. I would also take part in all of the National pageants, could be judging or interviews.

5. Nowadays, do you still keep in touch with any candidates of Mr. International 2010?
Thanks to the beauty of facebook I manage to keep in touch with a lot of the candidates from mister International 2010.had some great times with them and class them as my friends now.

6. What is your favorite part of your body & why?
My favorite part of my body would be my abdominals because I train them very hard and that’s what most people know me for now, haha.

7. Do u agree with popular belief that a man ruled by his head and a woman by her heart?
Not really thought about it but I would say not because we all have feelings I think which come from both the heart and the head. Well I know I make decisions from both my head and heart.

8. Looks, Intelligence, Wealth… Rank these in order of importance to you in your dreams of woman and why?
I’d like to say personality first as I need to be able to have fun and enjoy my time with her then secondly would like to be attracted to her as well as I would hope they would be back to me and finally I don’t think wealth would come in to it for me as I don’t see how money would make you attracted or fall in love with someone.

9. If u were offered a leading role in a film, which film would u prefer to choose and why?
I would like to be in a action film where I could save the day and the damsel in distress, hahaha. think SUPERMAN! :-)

10. How has your victory changed your life? What different do u feel, that you're as Mr. International 2010 and previously before?
Well I was a plumber before winning the title so my life has changed dramatically. I am a full time model and sponsored athlete so the plumbing tools have been put away in the shed for a while, haha.

11. What your new knowledge and experiences you had since you become Mr. International?
I have been very fortunate since winning the title to travel and see all parts of the world and experience new cultures which have made me realize how lucky I am in life and that I should never take anything for granted.

12. What has been the most difficult part as Mr. International?
Being away from my family for a lot of the year as I am very close to them, also not knowing what you are doing until a couple of days before.

13. What was the one special moment of your year as Mister International 2010 you will NEVER forget?
I will never forget the moment I actually won the title, when I was on stage and I heard my country had won a worldwide competition and how proud I felt. Unforgettable moment seeing my mums face light up when I was lifted up by all of the contestants.

14. Describe your year as Mister International 2010 in just 4 words.
Unforgettable, life changing, Amazing and overwhelming

15. What will you do after crowning your new successor which means your duty as Mr. International is over?
I have sponsors from numerous companies for a few years now so I will pursue my modeling career and hopefully break in to America

16. What do you think about Cesar Curti, the new Mr. International 2011? Did you expect him to win the competition?
Well I have unfortunately not met him so do not know him as a person but he looks fantastic in pictures and looks to be a worthy winner

2. In your own words, who is Erick Martinez?
I am a hard-working, kind person with simple taste. When I have a personal goal, I do everything is in my hands to achieve it. I love to be with my loved ones, but I also enjoy some quite time on my own.

3. Tell us something that many people don't know about you.
When I was 5 years old, I climbed onto the roof of my house to roll skate.

4. Describe the town where you grew up?
Tres Rios is one of the main coffee growing areas in Costa Rica. It is located 12km East from San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital. Even though it is very close to the city, it still keeps the peacefulness of a little town.
Right in the middle to this little town, we have the Catholic Church, the city hall and the elementary school. From wherever you are, you can see the beautiful La Carpintera Mountain; a national reserve and an area for recreational walks. Our mountains also provide water to most areas in our Central Valley.

5. Tell us about your family. What happened when you told them your desire to be Mister? Did they support you?
We are a very close family. My mother has always been the head of the family and she worked very hard to give the best opportunities to her children. I still live with my mother and my three sisters… and also my dog Natsu.
When I first told them I was participating in Mister Costa Rica, they didn’t understand very well how a male beauty pageant works. However, now they are the ones who support me the most. My mother is the one person who asks me all the time about the pageant and what I am doing to prepare myself for it.

6. Before participating in a Mister International Costa Rica Pageant, what do you do? And did you dream of becoming a Mister?
I majored in Physical Therapy, but I have always worked in the aviation industry. I was a flight attendant for three years.
When that period of my life ended, I decided it was time for me to pursue other goals and dreams I had left aside. To represent Costa Rica in an international pageant was one of those dreams; therefore, I didn’t hesitate when I signed up for the Mister International Costa Rica pageant.

7. What is your favorite part of your body & why?
My legs, I believe it is a blessing I can walk; but also because they allow me to run and swim, which are the sports I practice and love the most.

8. What is your worst quality?
I get in bad mood when fell sleepy.

9. Any beauty queens/kings that you really admire and who inspires you? Any idol in life? Why?
Eva Ekvall, Miss Venezuela 2000, she is one of the most beautiful women I have seen in my life and her life story is very impressive. What I admire the most about her is her thriving will and her desire to live which helped her win the fight against breast cancer. I have two personal idols:
First, Ian Thorpe: This Australian is a great sports man. I had the opportunity to see him in a competition in Fukuoka, Japan and the way he swims is just impressive.
Second, Nelson Mandela: The iconic man who fought against the apartheid. He was able to change the racial ideology of a country and the world. A country that was divided now lives peacefully due to his unifying politics.

10. Tell us about your preparations for the 2011 Mr International pageant.
I am being trained by “Reinas de Costa Rica” in the areas of modeling, photography, speach as well as national and international history.
In regards of my physical appearance, I go to the gym five times a week, two hours per day. I combine weights and cardio. I am also following a cero fat diet that is low in carbohydrates by high in proteins.

11. Which do you think is your best quality for winning the title of Mister International?
I believe the quality that will help me win this pageant is my modesty.

12. Have you already seen the photos of the other candidates? which ones do you think are your strongest rivals?
All of them seem to be strong, well-prepared candidates; however, if I have to name someone, I would say Mexico, Brazil and Slovenia could potentially be my strongest rivals.

13. If you don’t win Mister International 2011, what are your plans for the future?
I don’t like to think in this possibility; but if it happens, I would like to find a job as a model in Asia. If that doesn’t happen either, I can only think of: EMIRATES.

14. What's your special message to your fans & supporters?
First of all, I would like to thank them for supporting Costa Rica, a country that will always welcome them with open arms.
